Call For Urban Forestry Proposals

The FY2001 Interior Appropriations Bill provides project funding for urban and community forestry programs to be available nationally on a competitive basis. The USDA Forest Service Northeastern Area is requesting Pre-proposals for two categories: Title VIII funding (Land Conservation, Preservation and Infrastructure Improvement), and Inner City project funding. The vast expansion of metropolitan areas-commonly referred to as urban sprawl-is changing the natural landscape and impacting the health and function of urban watersheds. As existing forestland within metropolitan areas grows smaller, more fragmented and parcelized, the land area of urban forests is expanding. The urban forest may be the only forest metropolitan area residents may experience.
