US Report Raps State Transportation Management

A federal report says Massachusetts should grant more local control to communities over transportation spending.

"Massachusetts must take steps to improve its management of local transportation funding or risk losing transit dollars, including money for the Big Dig, the report warned... Federal officials also criticized the Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization for spending too much time on highway issues at the expense of public transportation...In the draft report, the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration called for several 'corrective actions,' which must be completed before the Boston-area planning organization would be federally certified."
