"Faced with an incensed public and threats of political retaliation, Waste Management, Inc., and environmental regulators abandoned plans Wednesday to bury tons of incinerated Philadelphia trash in Broward County.The hasty retreat leaves a barge with 3,000 tons of ash moored in the St. Lucie Canal with no hope of finding a final resting spot anytime soon. Other states and countries around the world have rejected the remnants of Philadelphia's 1980s trash crisis..."
