Housing developments in St. Paul and Minneapolis take the New Urbanism approach.

"Suburban housing developments aren't known for having many sidewalks. Unlike city dwellers, suburbanites have to use their cars, not their feet, to get to the far-away school and convenience store and even the bus (not at the corner, but at the miles-away park-and-ride lot). But there's a new kind of housing development in the Twin Cities -- a development resembling many of the concepts of "New Urbanism" -- an idea that has swept the nation in recent years and is taking root in Minnesota. The idea focuses on making housing developments act more like traditional city neighborhoods."
