Township Wants Voice In Land-use

The nation's oldest form of local government is seeking to gain land-use authority long reserved for cities -- a change that would likely alter patterns of urban growth and development.

Townships in Ohio are seeking the power to protect themselves from city expansions. Pro-Township supporters believe that townships can better manage growth, and prevent urban sprawl. On the other side, Pro-City supporters claim the opposite. They say that empowering townships would cripple cities and fuel urban sprawl. "You will have unregulated growth outside municipal boundaries."
