"Berkeley's commercial officemarket...[is] one of the tightest in the Bay Area. Vacancy rates in downtown Berkeley stood at 0.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2000, down from 4.1 percent at the end of 1999. That'stighter than downtown Oakland...and evendowntown San Francisco. The high demand for space has pushed Berkeley office rents 50 percent higher than they were last year."
