Clinton Land Designation Will Stand

President Bush won't revoke former President Clinton's designation of millions of acres as national monuments.

"The Bush administration won't seek to overturn any of former President Clinton's designations that made millions of acres of federal land off limits to mining and commercial activity, including 164,000 acres near Cortez... Secretary Gale Norton said that the administration and Western lawmakers and private property owners are likely to attempt to adjust the boundaries of the new national monuments and alter the rules governing commercial activities within them, but that there would be no organized attempt to roll back Clinton's designations."
