A major transit strike in Philadelphia is averted -- for now.
"A strike deadline in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority's negotiations with its drivers and operators union came and went Wednesday night, leaving the system's 400,000 city riders with uncertainty: The buses and trolleys were to run this morning--but they may not this afternoon. Transit Workers Union Local 234 trustee Harry Lombardo said no new talks had been set, and that he would appeal to Mayor John Street and SEPTA's board to intercede.
