A Diversity Index based on the new 2000 Census figures ranks Long Beach, CA as the most diverse city in the U.S.
"Long Beach came up number 1 in a ranking of the 65 biggest cities in the United States, calculated by running the new Census 2000 population numbers through a mathematical formula that figures out the odds that any two people picked at random in a city will be of different races or ethnicities. Long Beach scored 79.4 out of a possible 100 points using the Diversity Index." The top five most diverse cities include Long Beach, Oakland, Los Angeles, New York, and Houston.
