Residents of Boston's South Side are marking public parking spots with cones, coolers, and chairs, in an effort to save them for later after personally cleaning out the snow. The Mayor ok'ed the practice, but some shovelers are abusing the system.
"Outrage over the hogging of public parking spaces in South Boston has boiled over into cyberspace with the launch of a new blog dedicated solely to anger over a controversial tradition that some say has spiraled out of control in recent weeks.
The blog kicked off Sunday, a bright 45-degree day when snow melted and people continued to mark public parking spaces with chairs, coolers, plastic crates and cones in defiance of the mayor's policy on the practice.
The blog, savemyspotinsouthie.blogspot.com, is "dedicated to the exploitation of public space in Southie during a snow storm" and features photos of markers on city streets. A copy of this type-written note, purportedly left on a car 10 days after a storm, is posted: Very rude to be taking someone's spot!!! Put the cone back when you leave!!"
