New Jersey launched a new express train service, ACES, to carry visitors to the bustling Atlantic City casinos from NY Penn Station. The trip will take 2 hrs, 45 minutes. Though there won’t be gambling aboard, each train has two bars.
The Atlantic City Express Service received almost $20 million by three Atlantic City casinos to buy two, four-car train sets, each carrying 300 people in double-deck cars. It will be operated by NJ Transit
"Introductory fares start at $39 each way for coach and $64 for first class, and tickets are sold through Amtrak.
The flagging economy could be a boon to Atlantic City if East Coast residents start forgoing trips to Las Vegas for weekends at Jersey Shore casinos.
The end of the line is the Atlantic City train station, where shuttles and taxis to the casinos await. New Jersey depends on Atlantic City for income, with 3 to 4 percent of its revenues coming from taxes and other funds generated in the city, Governor Corzine said while sitting in the lounge of the train."
From Daily News:
"First-class customers on the ACES trains receive waiter service and wider seats. A private lounge with plasma televisions and complimentary appetizers is also available to riders willing to drop $200."
