A 25-year plan titled "Draft Compact for a Sustainable Bay Area: Economy, Environment, Equity" is available for public comment. It tackles some of the Bay Area's toughest planning issues.
"The Draft Compact, as it is commonly called, deals with perennial Bay Area issues like transportation, housing, education, preserving and restoring the environment, using available resources, improving neighborhoods, involving residents and making government responsible." Two projects, "Smart Growth Strategy/Bay Area Alliance Livability Footprint" and the "Community Capital Investment Initiative" have already been implemented.
