San Francisco's Muni is embarking on a study to determine whether to build housing or a hotel on one of the city's most valuable undeveloped properties.

"Few residents would say Fisherman's Wharf needs yet another tourist hotel. But that's what Municipal Railway officials are considering as they sketch plans for a bus yard that now is one of the most valuable undeveloped properties in San Francisco. The Municipal Railway's potential gold mine is the Kirkland Division transit yard, 2.6 acres bounded by North Point, Powell, Beach and Stockton streets and home to about 150 diesel buses."
