Resident Demands 'Everything in My Back Yard'

The public comment period at a recent planning commission meeting in Wheaton, Illinois was commandeered by resident Joann Davies, who aggressively demanded that a variety of land uses be approved in her neighborhood.

The three minutes allotted to Ms. Davies for public comment bled into nearly an hour and a half of demands, leaving commissioners with at least 12 pages of notes on suggested community improvements.

"There's no nuclear reactor, no waste treatment facilities, not even a homeless shelter!" Ms. Davies exclaimed. "What good is this neighborhood anyway?"

"What we need are more billboards, more freeways entrances, more nudie bars. I mean, I can't even walk out my front door and see any sort of correctional facility. Would it kill you guys to approve a prison over here?" she demanded of the planning commissioners. "I'd even settle for a juvenile hall. But that's as far as I'll go."
