Streetcars and Commuter Rail Get Official in Fort Worth

A streetcar system and commuter rail line are now officially part of a regional plan for the Fort Worth area.

"The two projects were added to the region's Mobility 2030 plan Thursday during a meeting of the Regional Transportation Council, North Texas' congressionally recognized planning body."

"Proponents have been lobbying hard the past few years for a streetcar system that would connect downtown with areas such as museums and hospitals. The streetcar system's estimated price tag is $250 million, and it will take five years to build."

"Inclusion in the Mobility 2030 document was considered a crucial step toward keeping the streetcar project on the region's front burner, and eventually getting enough funding to begin construction."
