"The NIMBYs of Los Angeles, as I have argued in past columns, are the unsung heroes of L.A. By refusing to allow their neighborhoods to be crisscrossed with freeways, covered with parking lots or sprinkled with atrocious buildings, they have made life better for all of us." The Latino population in Los Angeles has been one of the most overlooked populations, with rail tracks and industrial development cutting apart historic Latino communities since the 1950s.
