Caltrain: Fees Raised, Service Cut

Caltrain officials are planning to cut midday service by half, raise parking fees by 50 percent, and charge more for the monthly Go Pass.

"The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, which oversees Caltrain, held a public hearing Thursday on the proposals to cut costs and raise revenue.

The board took no action on the $99.4 million budget plan Thursday - that will come later this month or early next month - but voted unanimously to declare a fiscal emergency.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency recently took that step, and AC Transit is set to consider declaring a fiscal emergency later this month.

The financial pain is the result of state cuts and falling fare box and tax revenue."
