Congresswoman Laura Richardson has gotten on the nerves of her Sacramento neighbors, mainly because she's never around. As a result, her home has gone untended and turned into a blight on the neighborhood.
Neighbors are calling the congresswoman's actions irresponsible and want her to resume taking care of her home. The property, which many neighbors are calling a "blight", has visibly deteriorated since Richardson was elected to office in 2007. Rats had begun to breed in her backyard and many neighbors fear the abandoned home will lower property values in the neighborhood.
"'I wouldn't want anyone that irresponsible to represent me,' said neighbor John Bailey, like Richardson a liberal Democrat. 'What I don't get is how she has the time to visit with Fidel Castro but doesn't have time for her own house. If you can't manage your own household, you probably shouldn't get involved in international affairs.'"
