Bike Activist Becomes The Man

What happens when a city hires a former bike activist to become it's mobility coordinator? No surprises, the city becomes more bike friendly.

"Charles Gandy is no stranger to bike planning and bicycle culture in America. The founder of bike advocacy groups in Texas, Gandy was named one of the thirty most influential bike activists in America in trade magazines in the 1990's. From there, Gandy founded his own advocacy group before landing in Long Beach, CA as the new mobility coordinator.

With Gandy at the helm, Long Beach is undertaking a real effort to recreate their streets so that all road users, cyclists, drivers, pedestrians and everyone else, get equal treatment on the street. Since 2007, the City has been hard at work implementing it's decade-old Bike Master Plan. However, the plan is only 15% complete by their estimates."
