Bikes Overtaking Pedestrians in Vancouver

In this video from the City of Vancouver, planners give a tour of the city's system of bike lanes. Bicycling is the fastest growing means of transportation in the city, and cars have actually declined.

Peter Stary, Bicycle Program Coordinator for the City of Vancouver, says in the video:

"Our goal is to provide a grid throughout the city such that no one lives more than half a kilometer away from a bikeway. Now, with the buildout of our network to over 30 bicycle routes, we have a modeshare of close to 4 percent. If you translate that into how many buses or cars it would take to move that many people, I think we're looking at some pretty big numbers, and we expect those numbers to keep growing."
