Vancouver's development for the 2010 Winter Olympics will be a long-term benefit for the city, according to Olympics advisers. Some say the positive impact is already being seen.
The city is already seeing the benefits of Olympic-related development, according to incoming Urban Land Institute chairman Jeremy Newsum.
"Newsum, who recently advised London Mayor Boris Johnson on 2012 Olympic legacy issues, said Olympic Park in east London will uplift a deprived area of the city with new housing, parks, bridges and commercial developments over the long term.
He noted the Olympic athletes' village project in Vancouver has already helped upgrade what used to be a "run-down and dilapidated" part of False Creek."
