Nat Turner Park is Newark's newest, and largest, city-owned park. The city bought the lot in the 1970s but didn't get around to developing it until now.
"The new park includes an amphitheatre, community event space, a multi-purpose athletic field, 400-meter regulation track, ornamental perimeter fencing, a playground, picnic areas, and streetscape improvements-all elements requested by community members."
Bernard Chase III is a member of the Friends of Nat Turner Park and a baseball coach who will most likely see his teams play in the new facility.
"We've been trying to get a park here for years," he said. "This is a blessing."
