Facility City Magazine outlines a variety benefits from developing a brownfield site.
"Across the nation, states who include smart growth in their economic development plans have established incentives and other forms of assistance to encourage companies to choose locations that reduce sprawl and make use of brownfields sites. According to the National Governors Association (NGA) report, New Mission for Brownfields: Attacking Sprawl by Revitalizing Older Communities, brownfields reuse is an important component of smart growth because it prevents development on greenfields sites which can lead to scattered, urban sprawl. With this in mind, more than half the nation's governors are pursuing strategies that promote economic development while protecting the environment, safeguarding public health, and improving the quality of life, according to NGA."
