Population Action International, a nonprofit organization inWashington DC, is working in Southern California to promote population control initiatives that the group says will help stop sprawl.
Amy Coen, president of Population Action International, addressed San Bernardino and Riverside residents on Monday at Loma Linda University. Population Action International, a nonprofit organization in Washington DC, is eager to work with the counties, which are two of the fastest growing areas in the region, experiencing 20-30 percent population increases in the last decade. Consequently, the areas are facing urban sprawl, traffic congestion, and smog. Coen, in conjunction with the Sierra Club, focused her talk on the natural environment's inability to sustain population increases, as well as the need to fund family planning programs. She stressed the connection between family planning and sustainability of the community, urging men and women to consider the availability of natural resources for future generations.
