Despite Intimidation and Violence, Officials Vow to Complete South Africa BRT

Amid recnt violence thought to be related to the country's plans to implement a bus rapid transit system, South Africa's national transport minister has vowed that the transportation project will move ahead.

Armed men stormed her house and shot her security guard, a move seen by some as an attempt by the national taxi association to intimidate officials away from supporting BRT. Taxi drivers and officials in the country see the BRT plan as an invasion into their business and have vowed protests, strikes and even violence to prevent its implementation.
