"The oldest county in America, on average, is a former leper colony in Hawaii; the youngest is a remote string of Yupi Eskimo fishing villages in Alaska. The highest percentage of people over 85 isn't in the retirement havens of Florida or Arizona, but on the dusty plains of North Dakota deserted by younger generations. Not far away, in South Dakota, is the largest percentage of preschoolers -- part of a teenage pregnancy boom among Lakota Indians."
