Citing a recent study that demonstrates higher home values in walkable neighborhoods, officials in El Paso say it's time to change the way their city grows.
"'We want to make sure all new development adds value to our tax base,' said city Rep. Susie Byrd, who has advocated for the development of walkable neighborhoods since her election to the City Council four years ago.
'A good example of this is Kern Place, a part of the city that has retained its value and continues to attract home buyers,' she added. 'If we promote walkability like the type that exists in Kern, we will improve our quality of life and economic outlook.'"
