Global Forest Watch is an international group that uses the latest digital technology to monitor and map the world's forests.
"The three-year-old project, an initiative of the World Resources Institute, started when researchers discovered no one had ever mapped which of the globe's forests were left and which were lost...the final product is a frequently updated picture of the who, what and where of forest development in eight countries (www.globalforestwatch.org). The institute hopes to expand its reach to 21 countries by the end of 2005."
