An architect, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer and four civil engineers from Iraq have taken over the base planning for the U.S Army's Basrah base, a small city with electrical, sewage and water systems as well as ongoing construction.

"In an era of transition in Iraq, the base planning and quality assurance and control on the U.S. Army base outside Basrah Iraq is now being turned over to Iraqis as well. Led by a man with 50 years experience spent designing buildings in places ranging from the university in his native Basrah to a Mitsubishi plant in Japan, the Iraqi engineers are a unique team."
