Homeowners in Palm Springs are turning the Palm Desert Cultural Preservation Committee down cold, saying they can't afford and don't want the designation.
Palm Springs, California is famous for its mid-century architecture, but efforts by the local committee to get 12 local homeowners to submit their homes for designation has resulted in 8 refusals and one maybe.
From The Desert Sun: "Committee members are puzzled by the community's apparent lack of interest in preservation.
'Nobody will bite,' said committee member Kent Routh. 'Is the public unaware, or do they think it's a bad thing?'
Under the city's preservation ordinance, a building or other site cannot be designated as a historic landmark without the consent of the owner."
