A new report from The Road Information Program, a D.C.-area nonprofit, documents the growing number of highway, bridge and transit systems in need of repair in Southern California and lacking the necessary funding.
"Despite the state's recent $3.6 billion boost from the $787-billion federal stimulus, California needs an extra $10.9 billion annually to maintain its roads, bridges and transit systems.
There's a backlog of much-needed roadway and transit projects waiting for money to be completed, said Mark Watts, executive director of Transportation California.
"We are short upwards of $10 billion annually to meet our transportation needs," Watts said."
