Historic Preservationists in Savannah, GA, are concerned about a loophole that allows the demolition of historic building just by waiting for one year.
"The way the rules are now written, anybody who owns a building of historic value in the 2.2-square-mile National Landmark District can go before the Historic District Board of Review for permission to demolish it. If the board votes against demolition, a 12-month moratorium can be put into effect. But after that, the owner is free to post a sign on the building, and then tear it down after a year."
