The new "lifestyle center" may soon combine the best of past and present shopping experiences.
"The International Council of Shopping Centers, a trade group, reports the average person has time to shop fewer than two stores in a mall, he said. The lifestyle design of shops ringing a parking lot lets people park near that store rather than trudge through a mall and come back the following days to visit the other stores as time allows between dropping off children at sporting events or lunch breaks. So far, 50 lifestyle centers exist nationwide, including one in Deer Park near Barrington, which boasts the best sales per square foot. Cincinnati-based developer Anderson Real Estate Inc. and Duke-Weeks Realty Corp. are banking on similar success here because the demographics are similar."
