Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has seen some dramatic decline over the past half century. Michael A. Stern, ASLA, LEED AP takes a look at the last 20 years of the city as it begins to rebound.
The post-industrial age dried up many jobs in the city, but Stern says jobs remain in Pittsburgh.
"Downtown remains the most logical and easily accessible location for new business investment. Although some businesses have moved to the suburbs, it is still the undisputed corporate and professional business hub for the region. In addition, in the last two-and-a-half decades, the City of Pittsburgh, along with nonprofits and the major employers that have remained there – in particular, the banks – continues to make investments in the city core."
He also examines the moves made in the 1990s to bring the city back to prominence.
