The 250-Foot Vertical Garden

Designers in Portland, Oregon are preparing to unveil a vertical garden on a federal building that would climb 250 feet up the side of the building.

The work is being funded mostly through the federal stimulus package.The remodleing of the federal building stands at $135 million, making it the biggest stimulus-related project in the state

"The architects' plans call for seven vertical 'vegetated fins' to jut at acute angles. The fins would be the metal framework for planters and the greenery sprouting from them.

The west wall is 150 feet long, making the expanse to be shaded about three-quarters the size of an NFL playing field, minus the end zones."
