An audit of the Planning Department in San Francisco, CA suggests the city may be giving preferential treatment to some developers.
"Several Department of Building Inspection employees surveyed for the audit reported witnessing such treatment. Several said their supervisors had asked that preferential treatment be given to specific people with building projects under the department's review. ... But the possibility of favoritism drew the most attention from some city leaders. The department's critics have long complained it gives special treatment to some permit expediters -- people who help builders and property owners secure the necessary city permits to begin construction."
