The online walkability tool is sexy but not perfect. Real estate site are beginning to use it; could planners use it too? Bill Fulton gives his two cents.
Fulton writes, "Walkscore.com's developers are working on incorporated more sophisticated walkability indicators into their scores -- things like density of roadway network, width of streets, and road speed. These improvements could enhance Walkscore's value as a planning tool. But as Walkscore gets closer to a qualitative judgment about whether a particular location is "good" or "bad," will its value as an objective tool decline?"
