Transit Mall Planned Around Dallas Transit Station

100 acres of the Urban Center development in Las Colinas have been set aside for a transit mall that will be built around the DART light-rail station scheduled to open in 2008.

"Officials say they hope the transit mall, the Urban Center's first major development opportunity in more than a decade, will help renew Las Colinas founder Ben Carpenter's vision. "Mr. Carpenter imagined a 24-hour community, and that's what the transit mall will provide," said Heinz Simon, president of the Las Colinas Association. "The new urbanism development and mass transit-oriented development is the wave of the future."
