After a 9 year fight, The Kent County planning board voted last night against a plan to build a 107,000 square foot Wal-Mart store on the outskirts of Chestertown, a small historic town on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The proposed site was a mile from the historic district of Colonial-era mansions, upscale shops, and a community of 4000 that prides itself on its town square and attractiveness to pedestrians.
