Texas Gives Suburbs Power To Run Mass Transit

"Gov. Rick Perry signed the mass transit bill into law late Sunday. The law allows suburban counties adjacent to counties with populations of 1 million or more to create, organize and manage their own mass transit authorities." Already Denton County, outside of the Dallas/Fort Worth Area, has organized a task force to study its options. The bill will allow the countywide mass-transit authorities to decide which mode of transportation – light rail, commuter rail, buses or a combination – would best suit their needs.
