National Geographic Profiles New Urbanist Suburbs

Planners are increasingly using new urbanist and smart growth principles to build suburbs. The result is the 'New Suburb.'

In a fascinating interactive display to accompany the July issue, National Geographic provides examples of new urbanism in an old Main Street model "a web of pedestrian-friendly streets cradling a mass-transit-served town center surrounded by a mix of housing alternatives." The display requires the free Macromedia Flash plug-in, and also includes a printable set of images.
