Challenges Face Ambitious New Metro Officials in Houston

When five new board members will join the Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority next month, they'll inherit a host of systemic problems and one of the toughest economic climates in decades.

The board will be tasked with doing all this amid a challenging economic environment and skepticism in some quarters that Metro's priorities, particularly light-rail, represent the best use of its assets."

But incoming board members say they're committed to advancing the region's transit system, despite the hurdles.
