The National Trust for Historic Preservation has announced its 2001 list of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places.
"For more than 60 years, it's been a monument to a day that will live in infamy, but Pearl Harbor's Ford Island - where remnants of bomb craters are still visible - is now threatened by a massive development initiative. In the nation's capital, the home of Carter Woodson, the father of the African-American history movement sits abandoned and forgotten, an ironic legacy of a man who spent his life preserving history and culture. And across the nation, historic movie theaters are fading to black every day, leaving gaping holes in once-vibrant main streets. These are just three of 11 sites the National Trust for Historic Preservation has named to its 2001 list of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places."
