As it turns 30, Amtrak has still not been able to show a profit, and continues to be plagued by problems. Business Week's surprising solution: split Amtrak into one private entity focused on making a profit, and another public entity focused on infrastructure."It's time for a radical fix that recognizes reality: split Amtrak in two. First, Congress should spin off a non-profit, government-owned corporation to maintain its rails, stations, and other infrastructure. Then lawmakers should create a private corporation focused solely on running the rail system profitably."
