GOOD points us to a new project that harnesses the power of citizens to create a census of trees in San Francisco.
The project is called Urban Forest Map, and it's a crowdsourcing effort to help cities get a better idea about how many and what sorts of trees they have. San Francisco is the test city for this new venture.
"The idea is to get citizens to help create a complete census of the city's trees. This information will then 'help urban foresters and city planners to better manage trees in specific areas, track and combat tree pests and diseases, and plan future tree plantings.'"
