Local authorities throughout Ireland have rezoned ag land into residential at a ridiculous rate, according to a recent study that shows a demand for fewer than 300,000 units where 800,000 units are now allowed.
The Irish Government may force local jurisdictions to turn over-zoned land back to agricultural uses.
From the Irish Independent: "Green Planning Minister Ciaran Cuffe last night vowed councils who engaged in rezoning "madness" would be ordered to either de-zone the land, designate it for other uses or allow restricted development.
"There has been massive over-zoning. This is now clear.[said Cuffe]."
