The Amway Arena in Orlando is being torn down and rebuilt, but meanwhile another developer is proposing a "creative village" for 68 acres nearby, with housing, education, gaming, retail, office space, and a "signature central park."
Columnist Scott Maxwell says the project is the best use for the land.
Maxwell writes, "The plan sounds somewhat pie-in-the-sky. And yet, as one who often finds the downside of everything from newborn puppies to found money, I find myself unusually optimistic about this.
It's progressive. It has vision. It's not typical Orlando.
And quite frankly, I'm not sure there are much better alternatives - especially for local taxpayers."
