A wish for stronger community ties and social interaction is prevalent among mixed-income Chicago residents, study finds.
A study by the University of Chicago reveals that while strides have been made in improving the physical appearance of many downtown housing units, the CHA has failed to foster a sense of community in the area.
"Ten years into the Chicago Housing Authority's "Plan for Transformation" - the landmark plan to replace thousands of apartments lost in the demolition of blighted high-rise projects with 10 mixed-income developments - the agency has struggled to meet one of its main goals: creating harmonious communities of lower-income residents and their more affluent neighbors," writes Emma Graves of the New York Times.
