A ring road that has been on the books for decades is being revived in Urbana, Illinois - and would run right through a popular urban farm.
Leslie Cooperband is the owner and operator of Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery, and is fighting the ring road in the name of urban farmland.
According to the Chicago Tribune, "She's up half the night writing commentaries for the local newspaper, posting appeals on the Internet, speaking out at city council meetings and various public hearings, and even sitting down one-on-one with decision makers, trying mightily to get the Powers That Be to understand just how wrong the road is.
"We're up against Goliath here," is the way 50-year-old Cooperband sees it."
The article interviews several folks interested in the preservation of close-in farmland who talk about the increased need to save ag land near cities.
