Americans Spending More On Housing Than Ever

18.6 million American households –renters and homeowners alike – spend more than half their income on housing, according to a new study by Harvard's Joint Center for Housing Studies.

The report's authors place the blame on stagnant wages. The report also says that the impact falls heaviest on lower-income people, and "most of the people eligible for government housing subsidies aren't getting them."
